What are the matches like?
Describe, if you kindly will, what folks will be shooting at and the distances.
Are there any equipment restrictions?
Separate divisions or gun categories?
Pistols?
Any prizes?
Curious minds, you know.

I'm not the OP, but I have been shooting there for about 2 years.

Usually have about 8-12 competitors in 3 catagories:

1. Main Rifle (MR)
2. Smooth Bore (SB)
3. Pistol

IIRC, when enough muskets show up there is also a musket category.

I started shooting MR with an in-line. Only stipulation was no scope, and had to use round ball. I'm sure if more folks brought out in-lines, we could talk John into putting us in another category and let us shoot conicals. I'm now shooting a 50 cal sidelock percussion, and having a lot of fun with it.

MR shoots at 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards. 100 yds can be shot in any position, unsupported (no bipod, monopod, sticks, or chunk). The others have to be shot off hand. 5/6 total targets, 5 shots each plus one tie breaker. Targets are criters, buffalo, zombies, rounds, and the infamous fleur du lac.

SB shoots 25 and 50 yards and usually have different targets than MR. Again, 5/6 total targets, 5 shots each plus one tie breaker.

Pistol is at 25 and 50 yds. 2 round targets, 10 shots each plus one tie breaker.

Come on out, there's always room for another shooter.

Thanks for the info.

I live too far away and no longer have muzzle loaders, but hopefully some of the other members will be interested.

Before I got sidetracked with archery 3D, I was a regular at a local muzzle loader club matches.
As you say, it's great fun and surprising how accurate a front stuffer can be.
Cheap to shoot, too.
I used a Thompson Center .45 traditional percussion model, with double triggers and target sights, using patched round balls.
For practice and some matches, we used clay birds at 100yds.
Very easy to hit with that gun.
Can't imagine what ever possessed me to sell it.

Headshots indeed!

Zombie attack drill was a hoot!

5 teams putting as many round balls into a zombie noggin as possible in 2 minutes.

Next match is Sunday, Aug 15th.

Dig that old gun out of the safe and make some smoke.

No zombies this month, but I'm sure there will be some other fun target.

If you have re-enactment gear, wear it. They want to take pictures for the club web site.
