SAN FRANCISCO — The FBI arrested a California man Wednesday for allegedly making threatening and harassing phone calls to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over health care reform, law enforcement officials said.
Gregory Lee Giusti, 48, was arrested at his San Francisco home shortly after noon, said Joseph Schadler, spokesman for the FBI's San Francisco office.
Schadler did not disclose the charges against Giusti, but said he's due before a federal magistrate Thursday morning.
Several federal officials said the man made dozens of calls to Pelosi's homes in California and Washington, as well as to her husband's business office. They said he recited her home address and said if she wanted to see it again, she would not support the health care overhaul bill that since has been enacted.
One official said the man is believed to have spoken directly with Pelosi at least once.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case publicly.
A call to a Pelosi spokesman was not immediately returned.
On Monday, the House Speaker told a reporters in San Francisco that "people have been active in expressing their disagreement."
Sometimes those expressions have risen "to the level of threats or violence," Pelosi said, explaining that she was not allowed to comment on her own situation.
Rose Riggs, a neighbor of Giusti in a public housing complex in the city's Tenderloin district, said she saw two plainclothes and two uniformed officers take him away in zip-tie cuffs. Riggs, 62, said Giusti was known for engaging in heated political debates with others in the building.
"He was not one of my favorite people. He had a real attitude problem," she said.
On Tuesday, authorities announced charges against a Washington state man who allegedly made threatening calls to Sen. Patty Murray, a Democrat. Charges also have been filed against a Philadelphia man who allegedly made a YouTube video threatening Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va.

With the economy and things the way they are all the crazies are coming out. Although threatening a public official is not the way to go. What does that accomplish? Nothing! The only recourse you have is election day and legal matters if they violated the law.

First, I'd be interested in whether this guy was an angry Democrat or Republican.

Second, while I think this guy should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, I find it tacky for them to trot out this story in front of the cameras. Any public figure in any capacity gets crazy people threatening them.

The agitators should be arrested, but acting like its the only time anyone has ever threatened a member of Congress is ridiculous.

BIG +1 on all that...adding that seeing if Rep or Dem might not matter much these days. Political operatives do BAD stuff, then claim to be who they are not, just to reflect poorly on the party NOT of their choosing.
UGLY job the way politics operates today!
As all have said, making threats of any public official is NOT acceptable for anyone.

It does look like an attempt on the part of the Democrats to play the victim role and blame the tea party folks and others for inciting violence.

Yes, it probably ties in to the rules for radicals by Saul Alinsky. There is no question they are following the book to the letter.

Well, as an example.

Bart Stupak, the congressman who is a "Pro-Life Democrat" had been promising that he and 11 other pro-life democrats were going to vote No on the Health Care bill because he felt that it would fund abortion.

On March 18th, he said to a news reporter that he and his wife were not getting sleep with all the threatening phone calls in the middle of the night, and that his wife was very upset, etc..

The media spins this to make it look like those evil "Teabaggers" were to blame.

Here is the problem with that theory. Bart Stupak stuck to his guns and said he was against the bill through all of that, and then on the Saturday before the vote, he was woo'd by the President, who promised him some funds for an airport, and promised him an 'executive order' that would negate the abortion funding. On Sunday, he voted Yes, along with the 11 other pro-lifers he was associated with.

The vote was on Sunday, March 22. Which means he was a NO vote until at least Saturday, March 21. So who was threatening him? Not the Tea Party people, the Tea Party people would have been encouraging him or thanking him for standing on principle.

Any threats would have been from the Left.
