Can anyone tell me how long it takes FL to process the application.I know they say 90 day's does it really take them that long?I have already waited 31 day's
Thanks
Assuming you mean the FL concealed weapon license :P
2 years ago mine took 45 days using regular fingerprint methods.
It can go faster with electronic fingerprinting.
I've heard that they batch fingerprints to the FBI, so that could affect return time if true.

I did mean the FL concealed weapon license.I live in Texas and went with the FL permit because it covers more states.I applied for the non-resident.

jackson:
be careful with that Fl Non-Res CCW.
A few states will no longer recognize it. They only recognize a CCW from your state of residence.

Nine days with elecrtonic fingerprinting. I was absolutely stunned to get it back that fast and I don't even own a stun gun. :D

If I remember correctly, 90 days is the absolute
max that they can take to issue a permit.
That was put into place so that the locals (that
don't think that you are smart enough to have a
permit) can not sit on a permit forever.
Even if they do not want to issue one, unless
they have a valid reason to deny it, they can not
refuse it by holding it indefinitely.

I forgot to mention that the guys that I know that
have applied recently (electronically) have taken
less than three weeks.

A buddy of mine mailed off his application on May 10th and just got his permit in the mail this Tuesday, May the 29th (10 business days). My wife and I sent ours off on the 17th so I am hoping for a similar turn-around on ours. One bit of advice that I got when we sent our in is that you can cut your wait down by getting electronically finger-printed and by sending payment by money order instead of a personal check. Not sure if those things help at all but it was worth it to me to find out. I will let you know when my permit shows up in the mail.

I have been waiting 30 days...did the card method so I expect to be waiting for a while longer. My question is, if there is a problem with the application, will they let me know before the 90 days are up so I can correct it, or can they take 90 days to let me know and then have to start from scratch?

Elecrtronic prints, with pay online for processing, only took me 14 days as a resident.

Took me almost the full 90 days. I know several folks that got theirs in less than a month. The key is getting electronic finger prints. :)

Electronic finger printing is the best way to go if you dont feel like waiting so long.

So my wife and I both take the required class, get electronically fingerprinted, fill out the paperwork, etc... I triple checked everything to make sure that both of them were correct and I mailed both out on the same day. She got her permit in the mail in on Monday. I am still waiting on mine. Oh well, luck of the draw I guess. (I did call to confirm that everything was OK. They issued the permit on Monday, and it is in the mail). Still, it will be less than 30 days total turn-around time.

Oh yeah, for those who have applied for a CCW permit and haven't yet received your permit. You can check on the status while you are waiting to hear back.
http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/contacts/faq.html
From the above link:
"How can I check on the status of my application?
Depending on the location from which your application is mailed, it usually takes 7-10 days to reach the Division of Licensing. Normally, it requires about 10 business days after your application is received by the Division for your information to be entered into our database. Please take this into consideration before you check on-line (FS493 applicants only) or call.
If you are individual or an agency seeking to provide private investigative services, security services, or recovery services, you can perform an online search to check the status of your application.
Individual Agency
[b]If you have applied for a concealed weapon or firearm license, you can check the status of your application by calling our Public Inquiry Section at (850) 245-5691."

Went and checked the mail today at lunch and found my CCW permit in the box. My wife got hers on Monday. We both applied May 17th. Irronically, I also got a call from the gun shop in town to let me know that my pistols came in. So, I got my permit and my gun within about 10 minutes of each other. At work now, carrying in front right pocket and no one is the wiser. Can't wait to get home tonight and wrap my wife's up. Our anniversary is in a week but I don't see any reason to wait to give it to her. Long story short, just shy of a month to get mine back.

I did the e-finger print method and it still took more than 2 months to get mine. I imagine vacationing staff must play a part in the backlog.
